Thailand's Soul
Insights and personal reflections on people, culture, and power

Stig Troelsen
Drawing on his experience of living in Thailand with his Thai partner, Danish writer Stig Troelsen looks beyond the beaches and bars to explore the country’s history, religion, politics, social structures, relationships, and everyday life.
Through short reflections, vignettes, and poignant observations, Thailand’s Soul offers an outsider’s perspective on a remarkable and sometimes contradictory society—one known for its warmth and hospitality, but also marked by tensions and struggles not always seen by visitors, a paradoxical place where, alongside the beauty and power of Buddhism, Thai women are condemned to sell the most precious thing a human being can have. Thailand’s Soul is a bold, personal, and unique alternative to a conventional tourist guide. |
